Powering Through the Mud

Groundworks specialist teams up with local camp site for Carfest 2019

North West-based groundworks specialist, M Downes Earthworks, kept the power going for 1,200 campers attending Carfest 2019, despite unseasonably wet weather.

M Downes Earthworks, based in Whitchurch, provided temporary electric hook ups, power, lighting and generators for the Broad Oak Farm Pitch & Canvas site during Carfest 2019 which saw unseasonably wet weather. However, attendees didn’t let the inclement weather dampen their moods despite the wet and muddy conditions, which has seen a whole host of other festivals cancelled this summer.

Due to the high influx of visitors during the event, Pitch & Canvas provide a dedicated campsite, within walking distance to Carfest, held at Bolesworth Estate. The site is tailored to the needs of festival visitors with a breakfast grill, barbeque, luxury toilet and shower facilities and a shuttle bus service in constant operation over the three-day festival.

Over the weekend, Pitch & Canvas see up to 1,200 campers ranging from everywhere from John O’Groats to London. All of which have differing requirements including tents, camper vans, and luxury glamping set ups.

Suzanne Miller, Director of Pitch & Canvas, comments “Carfest provides a huge boom in business and we needed an experienced company to help us with the lighting, power and electrical hook ups for the site.

“I called on Earthworks because they are local and actually had the most competitive price too. They set up everything hassle free and really knew what they were doing which made me feel completely at ease.

“The Earthworks team were  professional from the outset, thought outside the box and even came over to help at 4am when we experienced some issues due to the bad weather.”

From weddings, to one off events and large festivals, a generator is often a vital part of operations, providing outdoor, emergency power or continuous back up. Renting is an attractive prospect for short term projects or events, where organisers want to minimise costs and reduce stress.

Martin Downes, Managing Director of Earthworks, comments: “We see a big increase in demand for generator hire over the summer months when lots of outdoor events are happening.

“Festivals and camp sites require a huge amount of set up, items such as portable generators and light towers are essential for the smooth running of the day and there’s a lot of logistics behind what visitors see.

“It’s a shame to see so many other festivals cancelled due to the severe thunderstorms and wind forecasted, but our team is experienced in providing power for these types of events and camp sites, no matter what the weather, and it was great to play our part in Carfest 2019.”
