Indoor Equestrian Arena - Our Latest Project

Showjumper and horse trainer Claire West required a new 20 x 40 Indoor Arena to exercise her horses and to produce youngsters all year round. The temperamental climate in the North West Region presented restrictions to Claire by making outdoor riding difficult at certain times of the year. She was able to fulfil her ambition to train all year round and after night fall with the help from MDownes Earthworks.

“The Indoor Arena had to be slightly different because it is eventually going to connect to a stable block. This meant that sliding doors had to be set in a different place compared to a standard design” explained Claire. “MDownes Earthworksproduced all the plans for us and created a bespoke solution that matched our needs perfectly. It will have a great impact on the yard – being able to keep our horses clean and dry and exercised in perfect conditions during the winter weathers”.

Kickboards were fitted around the arena, and a wax fibre mix surface was supplied by Andrews Bowen. “Double Yorkshire boarding was a great recommendation by MDownes Earthworks” says Claire. This was installed down one side where the arena faces heavy weather elements. The double boarding provides a draft free, airy environment when the horses are being exercised.

A Collaborative Approach To Construct An Indoor Arena

As well as taking a hands-on approach with the design and working closely with Claire to achieve the perfect structure she was looking for, MDownes were also obliging and extremely helpful in their communications; ensuring Claire’s project ran smoothly to achieve an efficient and collaborative service. “Nothing was a problem for MDownes Earthworks”, she explained. “They were very professional and sorted out any challenges quickly”. “I would definitely use them again and would not hesitate to recommend to others”.

Exceptional Quality For An Affordable Service

As well as being impressed at the level of service she received from MDownes Earthworks, Claire was also drawn to the quality and affordability which MDownes offered. “They were very competitive on price but this didn’t represent a compromise in quality” she explained. “The quality of the steelwork was better than other companies I compared – giving us great value for money”. Now that the project is complete, Claire can enjoy making good use of the school all year round!
